Second National Council Appointment For Faculty of Pharmacy Dean

We are proud to announce that the Dean of our own Faculty of Pharmacy, Professor Datuk Dr Allan Mathews has been appointed to the Pharmacy Deans’ Council of Malaysia!

This is the latest feather in his cap throughout a distinguished career. Last year, he was appointed to the Pharmacy Board Malaysia—the highest pharmacy body in the nation. The three-year term marked the second time he was appointed.

This latest honour underlines the quality and standing of our academics in their respective fields.

Prof Datuk Dr Allan boasts over 40 years of experience in the pharmaceutical world and the academic realm. In the former, he has served in public hospitals implementing clinical pharmacy services, public pharmaceutical production and quality control(injections and non-injections), the corporate pharmaceutical industry and university community pharmacy.

His nine years in pharmacy academia,  where he has led QIU’s Faculty of Pharmacy have seen him speak at national and international conferences. He is a former advisor on Hospital Pharmacy to the World Health Organisation and a renowned academic author. In July 2022, he was part of an expert panel appointed  by a World Health Organization body to discuss reforming healthcare services in Malaysia.  He proposed the outsourcing of certain public pharmacy services to the private community pharmacies.

Prof. Datuk Dr Allan was admitted to the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, and is a two-time President and Honorary Fellow of the Sabah Pharmaceutical Society as well as a Life member of the Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society and Past-president of the Rotary Club of Likas Bay, Kota Kinabalu. He was the Building Chairman of a senior citizens home in Kota Kinabalu. His alma mater Universiti Sains Malaysia also gave him the recognition as a Notable Alumni.

In recognition of his professional and NGO contributions, he was awarded the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu by the Governor of Sabah—which carries the honorary title “Datuk”.

Prof. Datuk Dr Allan said: “This honour is not only for me personally, but also for QIU which has provided me the platform to develop an innovative and holistic Pharmacy programme which is now gaining attention and recognition in the country.

All of us at QIU offer our heartiest congratulations on the appointment, Datuk!
