Befitting Quest International University’s (QIU) commitment to inspiring positive social and environmental change, our staff and students kicked off 2024 with renewed verve for conserving and rehabilitating the Kinta River Basin.
Titled Treevolution@QIU, the half-day event was held on 3 February at Taman Rekreasi Kolam Sungai Pinji, Tanjung Rambutan, in collaboration with the Ipoh City Council (MBI), the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS), and the Global Environment Centre.
QIU’s robust partnership with key government and non-governmental organisations is aimed at uplifting Taman Tasik Indah for the benefit of residents. Likewise, such events contribute to global efforts towards achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals specific to climate action (#13), life below water (#14), and life on land (#15).
Treevolution@QIU marked the third phase of our ongoing annual campaign to raise public awareness of the Kinta River Basin’s central role in sustaining the rich ecosystem of Perak, and the best practices we can follow to ensure its continued health. Previously, QIU had commemorated World Rivers Day by co-hosting state-level celebrations with great fanfare.
Participants undertook an array of conservation activities with great enthusiasm, together landscaping the park by planting trees, cleaning up litter, and weeding plant beds. The inauguration of a new playground especially delighted the children present at the occasion.
Ultimately, Treevolution@QIU serves as the next step towards fashioning a smart-collaboration, capacity-building platform for all stakeholders, target groups, and the Friends of Kinta River Basin movement to better manage this vital waterway.
As always, we’re enormously proud of our academics, staff, students for pursuing the path of environmental conservation so that future generations may safely inhabit our planet. Well done indeed!
