QIU SUSTAINABLE
DEVELOPMENT GOALS

What are the
Sustainable Development Goals?

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.

The 17 SDGs are integrated—that is, they recognize that action in one area will affect outcomes in others, and that development must balance social, economic and environmental sustainability.

Through the pledge to Leave No One Behind, countries have committed to fast-track progress for those furthest behind first. That is why the SDGs are designed to bring the world to several life-changing ‘zeros’, including zero poverty, hunger, AIDS and discrimination against women and girls.

Everyone is needed to reach these ambitious targets. The creativity, knowhow, technology and financial resources from all of society is necessary to achieve the SDGs in every context.

QIU's Role

QIU is committed to being a responsible corporate citizen and emphasizes the importance in aligning itself to the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

The University firmly believes that as a higher educational institution, it is of pivotal importance to integrate sustainability into our academic activities to ensure that our graduates are fully immersed in sustainability practices which they will reinforce in their future professions.

The University hosted Fulbright Specialist Dr. Nancy Landrum for a period of six weeks in June and July 2019. The purpose of the Fulbright visit was to help QIU integrate the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the curriculum by achieving three objectives:

Conduct a workshop to train the academic staff on theimportance of education for sustainable development.

Develop academic and training curricula to achieve goals as described.

Set up a Centre for Social Innovation to ensure the sustainability of our programs, collaboration and networking with similar entities on a global platform.
