APEL.C Assessments

The assessments will assess the comparability of the experiential learning acquired by learners to the learning outcomes of a course within an existing programme.

Learners will undertake either one of the following:

(a) Challenge Test

  • Proctored standard test to assess if the learner has achieved the course learning outcome(s).

  • Can be in the form of a written test, oral examination and/ or performance assessment; depending on the nature and discipline of the course.

OR

(b) Submission of Portfolio 

  • A formal set of documents that contains a compilation of evidences documenting the prior experiential learning of a learner, accompanied by learning statements that articulate the learning acquired over a period of time. 

  • The portfolio is prepared by the learner to demonstrate that the learning acquired is relevant and specific to the course learning outcome(s) of a particular course.

Award of Credits

  • To satisfy the requirement of credit awards, the learner must be able to demonstrate achievement of at least 50% of each course learning outcome.
  • The credits awarded does NOT involve the transfer of grade and will not be used in the calculation of Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). However, it will be counted towards the total graduating credits required for completing the programme.

Entry Requirements

    • OPEN to all learners with relevant knowledge and skills acquired through non-formal work-related learning experience and informal training courses.
    • There is NO minimum age requirements.

What is APEL.C?
  • APEL.C provides an avenue to assess relevant experiential learning of the individual which leads to the award of credits for courses.

  • APEL.C is the award of credits for the prior experiential learning towards a course in an accredited programme of higher education provider (HEP).

Is APEL.C applicable to Malaysians only?

No. It is applicable to all local and international students at Quest International University, regardless of the mode of entry; whether through the conventional or APEL.A route.

Is there any age limit to apply for APEL.C?

No, there is no age limit.

Is APEL.C recognised by the national body which accredits academic programmes? 

 Yes, Quest International University has obtained approval from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) to conduct APEL.C.

Is APEL.C applicable to all areas and levels of qualification?
  • Yes, all areas and levels as listed in the Malaysia Qualification Framework (MQF).
  • For postgraduate level of study, the credit award is limited only to the courses in programmes conducted via coursework and mixed modes.
Is APEL.C applicable to all courses?
  • Yes, except for the final year project-based courses and dissertations.
  • Industrial training, including practicum, can be considered based on the suitability of the field.
What is the maximum credit transfer allowed through APEL.C?
  • 30% of the total credit requirement for graduation.
  • Example: for a bachelor’s degree with 120 total graduating credits
    • Maximum credit transfer allowed = 120 x 30% = 36 credits
Am I allowed to apply for APEL.C for courses which I have already registered and undertaken?

No, this includes repeating courses.

When can I apply for APEL.C?
  • Any time during your study period.
  • However, you are advised to submit your APEL.C application during the first year of study.
What are the fees incurred?
  • Registration Fee: RM100 per registration
  • Application Fee: RM300 per course
  • Appeal Fee: RM125 per course
Is there any support given to me in preparing for the assessment?

Yes, an APEL.C Advisor will be assigned to guide you on this.

What is the assessment that I need to take for APEL.C?

You can opt to undertake either a Challenge Test or submit a Portfolio depending on the nature of the course and course learning outcome(s) as advised by the appointed APEL.C Advisor.
