QIU-FCE and SMJK Ave Maria Convent are positioned to build an even richer collaboration: future STEM competitions, professional development for teachers, joint activities with the IEM Women Engineers Section, and the sustained mentorship of AMC’s most promising young women into QIU’s computing and engineering programmes.
The partnership reflects both institutions’ commitment to achieving measurable results through evidence-based strategies and their drive to nurture innovation that benefits all students, especially those with special educational needs.
The QIU team’s achievements stood out among strong competition from institutions such as Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Perlis, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Universiti Teknologi Sarawak, and their Indonesian counterparts.
This year’s challenge, organised by our Faculty of Integrated Life Sciences and Faculty of Computing and Engineering, drew contestants from over 100 secondary schools across Perak, Penang, Kedah, and Perlis.
Our third-year Bachelor of Computer Science student, Ong Kok Donq, partnered with some of his brightest peers from across Malaysia to win the coveted ‘Best Student Team’ award at AAIMS25.
During their time at QIU, IME and our Faculty of Computing and Engineering lined up expert talks, interactive showcases, and networking opportunities aimed to inspire and inform.
The faculty’s senior lecturer, Ms Leong Ying Mei, and Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) students, Timothy Martin Fredric Martin and Kong Teng Sum, joined forces to win the AGRI-3 Problem Statement challenge (academic track).
We were honoured to welcome the QI Group’s co-founder Joseph Bismark to the campus, where he signed the MoU with QIU Chief Operating Officer Nicholas Goh.
QIU computer science student and teammates clinched the university student category by wowing judges with their innovative civic engagement app called MyUndang.
All told, our team won three gold awards, four silvers, three bronzes, and three special awards. This tally means we’ve won 81 awards in only four years of taking part!
