Faculty of Pharmacy Dean Appointed to Pharmacy Board Malaysia for Second Time

In yet another sterling acknowledgement of our academics’ standing, QIU’s Faculty of Pharmacy Professor Datuk Dr Allan Mathews has been appointed to the Pharmacy Board Malaysia.

Datuk Allan will serve a three-year term on the board, which is the highest pharmacy body in the nation. This is the second time that he has been chosen, as he previously served on the board from 2016 to 2019.

Only three registered pharmacists from higher educational institutions that offer pharmacy programmes are appointed to the board. The appointments are made by the Health Minister—what an honour!

A two-time President of the Sabah Pharmaceutical Society and Honorary Fellow of the Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society, Prof. Datuk Dr Allan has over four decades of experience in pharmaceuticals and academics.

This includes tenures in public hospitals and clinical pharmacy, public pharmaceutical production and quality control, corporate pharmaceutical industry and university community pharmacy. He has been in the realm of academia for nearly two decades.

In addition to leading the Faculty of Pharmacy since 2015, he has delivered numerous talks and seminars at national and international conferences.

A former World Health Organisation advisor and accomplished academic author, Prof Datuk Dr Allan is also a Member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy based on his pioneering work in establishing clinical pharmacy services.

In recognition of his professional and NGO contributions, he was awarded the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu by the Governor of Sabah—which carries the honorary title “Datuk”. He has also been recognised by the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, USM as a Notable Alumni.

“After serving in the Pharmacy Board of Malaysia from 2016 – 2019, it was a surprise that the Minister of Health has appointed me for a second term. I think it is not only an honour for myself but also to Quest International University which has given me the opportunity to develop an unique Pharmacy Programme as well as provided me the opportunity for exposure nationally and internationally,” said Datuk Allan.

“Being in the Pharmacy Board of Malaysia provides me opportunities to be able to interact with educators from other universities as well as with the highest policy makers in the Ministry of Health.  This exposure will assist the Faculty in our drive to develop unique programmes in Pharmacy.”

Congratulations, Datuk! Kudos on this latest honour!
