Experiential
Students from the Faculty of Business & Management and Faculty of Social Sciences joined forces in an inter-faculty initiative to develop and pitch a brand-building proposal for 18CTea – Perak’s first bubble tea outlet with a fully-vegetarian food menu. 18CTea chose their favourite from three different concepts – and the initiative allowed students to get first-hand experience of formulating a brand-building proposal and pitching it to a real-world client.
Part of the coursework assessment for the course BMK3205 Marketing Communications was to plan and organise the 1st Conference on Digital Marketing and Entrepreneurship. Students conceptualised the pre-event engagement, coordinated the actual event and provided a report on what they learnt
Students are brought on visits to professional industries and institutions like the Industrial Court to reinforce experiential and contextual learning. This is done to help them meld their classroom lessons and the education they get from speaking to people on the ground and first-hand experience.
Engagement
Learning through a steady stream of real-world projects is how we believe students learn best
World Clean up Day
More than 500 volunteers, made up of the public and QIU staff and students gave up their Saturday morning to participate in the World Clean Up Day, Ipoh Chapter event which was spearheaded by the University. The clean up activity was centred around cleaning the riverbank of Kinta river starting at Home of Silveryouth (HOS) and moving out in a 1km radius from the starting point. Yang Berhormat Dr. Abdul Aziz bin Bari, Perak State Exco member for Education, Environment, Green Technology & Information and Yang Berhormat Tuan Tan Kar Hing, Perak State Exco member for Tourism, Culture and Arts, also graced the event.
Enrichment
Group of students together with their lecturers were invited to attend Lazada club, Perak chapter monthly meeting to listen and learn from industry practitioners.
Thomas Moy, Grace Lee and Derek Emerson enthralled the students with vivid examples of how the SERVE leadership model is practised at Chick-fil-A. They brought their many years of experience managing and operating the restaurants to illustrate how they practise servant leadership and the business results that follow as a result of this leadership style. By the end of the session, students could visualise how the SERVE leadership model at Chick-fil-A creates a workplace where staff are truly engaged and where guests (restaurant patrons are called “guests” and not “customers”) love frequenting.
