Congratulations are in order for the Faculty of Social Sciences, who have notched up another accolade for their inventive approach to teaching and learning!
Four academics—Ummu Hani Yahaya, Noor Eleena Nordin, Nurfarahin Mohamed Ishak, and Aimi Farina Sariff—snatched silver medals at the Virtual Innovation Competition Exhibition (VICE) 2024 organised by Kolej Poly-Tech Mara (KPTM), Bangi. The faculty’s latest awards came in the Innovation in Teaching and Learning category.
VICE is an annual event that provides a platform for educators to present innovative ideas in administrative processes, teaching and learning, and more. It aims to transform and introduce new efficient and effective methods, producing better outcomes in administrative and educational fields.
As always, the competition was stiff, with Universiti Selangor (UNISEL), Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia joining the fray.
So, what was the award-winning invention?
Team leader Ummu Hani explained: “One of the biggest challenges for parents and teachers today is introducing children to religious concepts. This challenge becomes even more complex when working with children with special needs, such as those with learning disabilities. Additionally, early exposure to technology and gadgets has made children less interested in physical and tangible toys and reading materials.“
“To address this, we introduced the NUNique Series, an educational aid in the form of a storybook. The NUNique Series presents simple concepts aimed at educating toddlers, including special needs children, about Islam. We have launched two series so far: Warna-Warni Iman and Ibadah itu Mudah.“
This was Ummu Hani’s third accolade in 2024 after she won silver and bronze at two recent national education innovation showcases. It also marked Noor Eleena’s second recent win, as she won bronze at the Innovation Competition Exhibition.
Congratulations to all our winners—we look forward to the next accolade!
