The success of all our global sustainability initiatives depends on the involvement of our youth. We need an educated, empowered force of inspired young people to take sustainability into the future.
We’re happy to report on the success of a shining example of young sustainability leaders from the Faculty of Business and Management, who performed brilliantly to finish in the top 10% of the United Nations’ My Sustainable Living Challenge (MSLC) among a field of 315 groups from around the world.
Christened “Team QIU Eco Innovators”, the squad of eight Faculty of Business and Management students ranked in the 30th spot after completing 144 actions required by the online challenge.
The MSLC is an online gamified learning platform that channels learning towards behaviour change through actionable commitments. This year’s challenge was opened exclusively to university students and youth organisations, with the aim of catalysing sustainability awareness among higher education institutions.
Participants answer curated questions and engage in sustainable actions. Progress is tracked through a ‘treemagotchi’, which grows after each accurate answer and shared action, ‘nurtured’ by their intention to change.
The immersive six-week journey helped students learn about sustainability, system change, and the impact of their lifestyles across the domains of food, housing, mobility, consumption and leisure.
