The world may be eagerly awaiting the arrival of Avengers: Doomsday, but QIU has already witnessed its own Avengers rise to the occasion. Competing as the “Audit Avengers”, a four-member team of QIU students assembled an award-winning performance at the APU–ACCA Intervarsity AI Analytics Audit Challenge 2026, clinching Second Place after outperforming teams from many of Malaysia’s universities.
Their achievement was made all the more impressive given the calibre of the field, which featured participants from institutions including Universiti Malaya, Monash University, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), TAR UMT, Multimedia University (MMU), Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), University of Cyberjaya, City University and several other higher education institutions across the country.
Representing QIU were Lee Yoong Kang, Tan Zhong Hwang, Lee Ming Jing, and Goh Xin Yi, a talented combination of students from the University’s ACCA and Bachelor of Accountancy (BAC) programmes. Competing under the aptly named team “Audit Avengers”, they demonstrated the technical expertise, strategic thinking and collaborative spirit needed to excel in one of the country’s most forward-looking accounting competitions. The team were guided and mentored by Head of the School of Accounting and Finance Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tanaraj Krishna and senior lecturer Ms. Liza Wong Chiew Wei
The APU–ACCA Intervarsity AI Analytics Audit Challenge 2026 challenged undergraduate teams to tackle authentic audit and assurance scenarios by combining artificial intelligence, data analytics and professional judgement to deliver practical, evidence-based solutions. Designed to reflect the evolving demands of the accounting profession, the competition tested participants’ ability to leverage emerging technologies while upholding sound auditing principles.
Beyond the competition itself, the event served as a platform for students, academic leaders, finance professionals and regulators to exchange ideas on the future of audit and assurance in an increasingly digital landscape.
The challenge was supported by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), and leading industry partners including Baker Tilly, BDO, PwC and Singtel, underscoring its strong industry relevance and alignment with the profession’s digital transformation.
For QIU, the team’s success reflects the University’s commitment to preparing graduates who are ready to thrive in a rapidly evolving financial landscape. By embedding emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and data analytics into its accounting education, QIU equips students with the knowledge, technical capabilities and professional mindset required to meet the changing needs of employers and the wider accounting profession.
The achievement also reinforces the growing reputation of QIU’s accounting programmes in producing graduates who are not only academically accomplished, but also capable of applying innovative digital solutions to real-world business and audit challenges.
This achievement was another marker set down by our accounting programmes. Lee Ming Jing also achieved another feather in her cap earlier this year, when she became the world’s top scorer in the March 2026 ACCA Financial Reporting exam.
As industries continue to embrace AI-driven transformation, QIU remains committed to nurturing future accountants who are equipped to lead the profession with confidence, integrity and technological expertise—qualities that helped its own “Audit Avengers” assemble an award-winning performance on the national stage.
