Eat Healthy, End Obesity virtual talk

QIU Foundation in Arts students (Nov 2019) were not deterred by the Covid-19 pandemic when they recently organised a successful virtual event  ‘Eat Healthy, End Obesity’.

The main objective of this event was to educate and raise awareness among participants on obesity and the associated negative effects. The 2 hour  event saw 122 participants comprising both QIU staff and students tuned into this virtual event hosted by Ms Seleen Kaur and Ms Megan Ong.

The event kicked off with an interesting video montage from the organisers followed by a very informative presentation by Dr. Bhupinder Kaur, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Medicine on obesity and its effects. Having learnt of the horrifying effects of obesity, participants were then given a colourful walk-through by Ms Asma Amirah from the School of Hospitality on proper nutrition styles and suggested foods.

The last session of the day really made participants’ mouths water when Ms Anastasia Reshmajit, QIU Culinary Arts Alumni showcased a great video demonstration on healthy chicken wraps. The virtual event wrapped up with a fantastic Q&A session with participants’ eager to satisfy their curiosity to know more about ways to combat obesity, the types of foods that can be consumed and other healthy lifestyle practices.

All in all, the event was conducted successfully by the students and it is hoped that this can spur staff and students to stay healthy especially during this pandemic.
