500 Volunteers Do Their Bit For Kinta River

About 500 volunteers made up of the public and Quest International University Perak (QIUP) staff and students gave up their Saturday morning to do their bit to help clean up the environment recently.

These volunteers participated in the World Clean Up Day, Ipoh Chapter event which was spearheaded by the University. The clean up activity was centered around cleaning the riverbank of Kinta river starting at Home of Silveryouth (HOS) and moving out in a 1km radius from the starting point.

Yang Berhormat Dr. Abdul Aziz bin Bari, Perak State Exco member for Education, Environment, Green Technology & Information who officiated the event thanked the volunteers and the University for their time and commitment to clean the environment.

“The occasion today is yet again an example of how Malaysia in general and Perak in particular is striving to nurture its youth and hence the future of the world. And I believe that its vital to instill in our youths the importance of preserving and keeping our environment clean – so thank you Quest International University Perak for taking the lead.

“And all of you here today are part of this worldwide programme and you are playing your part to leave a positive mark towards preserving the environment through your participation here. Therefore to all the volunteers here today, a big thank you from me and the state of Perak.” said YB Aziz

The volunteer were broken into 6 groups and went out to clean up the river bank of Kinta river.

Mr. Nicholas Goh, Chief Operating Officer of QIUP in welcoming the volunteers, reiterated the University’s commitment towards serving the community and preserving Kinta river.

“QIUP’s philosophy has always been that we are here to serve the community as they have been the backbone of our success. Today’s event is a testimony of one of the ways how serve the community and the State at large by organising the Global ‘Clean Up campaign which takes place simultaneously in local communities throughout the world with an estimated 35 million volunteers from 130 countries.

“As aligned with the United Nations Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Quest International University Perak (QIUP) is committed to tackle waste and water pollution, adopting sustainable waste management systems, redesigning and innovating for maximum material recovery within our local community areas in Ipoh, Perak specifically Kinta river.” stressed Mr. Goh

The event was also attended by Yang Berhormat Tuan Tan Kar Hing, Perak state Exco member for Tourism, Culture and Arts, QIUP Registrar, Mr. Muhammad MG Omar and senior members of the University’s management team.
