We’ve all heard the age-old aphorism that ‘health is wealth.’ While some may chuckle and shrug at its very mention, we at Quest International University (QIU) believe there is no greater truth.
QIU is deeply invested in the holistic wellness of its students and staff. Healthy people are happy people, and a community of happy and healthy people fosters productivity, creativity, and a pioneering spirit – all key metrics by which we measure our contribution to our families and society.
Cultivating this virtuous culture naturally requires cooperation across the board, and our Faculty of Medicine (FoM) has always taken the lead in projects that help safeguard and improve public health, with the most recent example being its Youth Wellness Programme – twin workshops designed to impart vital health information to the underprivileged students of SABK Maahad Tahfiz dan Akademik Bakip – MATAQAB.
Building on this effort, FoM recently conducted a Nutrition and Healthy Eating Workshop on campus especially for university staff, helping them appreciate the significance of balanced diets and meal planning in maintaining overall health, and supporting the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being.

Beyond theory, participants were encouraged through interactive sessions to learn about and translate nutritional principles into realistic dietary choices. This workshop capped off our Healthy Hustle 1.0 campaign, which ran for over half the year and helped the QIU community adopt sustainable lifestyle changes through small, deliberate steps that lead to big health wins and meaningful life change.
The two highlights of this workshop were a talk on understanding the food pyramid and portion control, delivered by Dr Nurul Hazliana Harun, and the build-a-balanced-plate challenge led by Prof. Dr Darryl Ong and Dr Nurul Dayana Mahizir.
Going first, Dr Hazliana shared practical tips on selecting and portioning food in everyday life. Later, Prof. Ong and Dr Dayana instructed participants, who were divided into groups, to prepare two tortilla wraps using the ingredients provided. Each group then gave a short presentation to explain their choices and was subsequently quizzed by the trainers to ensure they understood the underlying nutritional principles.
Congratulations to our esteemed academics from FoM for their tireless efforts to create a healthier, more wellness-conscious community on campus and beyond. We look forward to more programmes aimed at improving public health.
