Biotech Academic Wins Second International Award for Urolithiasis Research

Game-changing research tends to attract plaudits, and one of our promising projects has garnered a second award in a matter of months.

Faculty of Integrated Life Sciences (FILS) academic Ms Sarah Stephenie John Sandanaraj received the Best Presentation Award from the Indian Pharmacological Association for their research on advancing drug discovery for the treatment of urinary stone conditions.

The event attracted around 500 presenters and welcomed 1500 participants from prestigious universities from India and beyond.

Sarah and her research mentor from the Faculty of Medicine Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ashok Gnanasekaran are actively engaged in the development of non-invasive, plant-based therapies for urolithiasis—which affects approximately 13 out of every 100 people worldwide.

This is the second accolade they won for the same project, after they won a gold award at the recent MTE 2023 Advanced Healthcare and Life Sciences International Innovation Awards & Expo.

Under the theme “New Modalities of Challenges in Drug Discovery & Therapeutics: Novel Approach for Global Health Care,” The Indian Pharmacology Conference 2023 was conducted in partnership with the Indian Pharmacological Society (IPS) and was hosted by BVVS Hanagal Shri Kumareshwar College of Pharmacy in Bagalkote, Karnataka.

The Indian Pharmacological Society (IPS) is a professional organization in India with the highest number of life members dedicated to the field of pharmacology. It functions as a platform for pharmacologists, researchers, and professionals to collaborate, exchange knowledge, and promote the advancement of pharmacological science and practice in India.

Congratulations, Ms Sarah and Dr Ashok!
