Our Bachelor of Arts (Honours) TESL student Toe Eng Hong continued his stellar run of form by adding more medals to his growing collection of sporting glories, recently winning two silvers at the 22nd Penang State Wushu, Lion Dance, and Dragon Dance Championship 2025.
Competing in the Wushu category, specifically the A-19 Male Traditional Chang Bing and the A-19 Male Traditional Quan Shu classes, Toe unleashed a thrilling exhibition of martial artistry with the long staff and barehanded combat forms to achieve podium finishes both times.

Held at the Sunshine Central Mall in Farlim, Penang, the competition was organised by the Wushu, Lion Dance, and Dragon Dance Association of Penang and drew over 200 competitors. It aimed to preserve and celebrate the rich heritage of Chinese martial and performing arts through vibrant displays of skill, strength, and artistry.
Toe’s last competitive outing had also yielded rich rewards. A few months earlier, he took home three silver medals at the 11th International WuDeBei Traditional Wushu Competition 2024, also held in Penang.

Talking about his latest triumph, he said he’d expected to win gold, but came away with the realisation that finishing on top was not all that mattered.
“When the scores appeared, I was overwhelmed to see I had placed second in my category. It wasn’t the gold that I wanted, but it was a reminder of how far I’d come. It was also a lesson for me to work on some areas for improvement. I know I will win a gold medal one day.”
We couldn’t agree more! Toe personifies all the essential ingredients of what makes a champion: perseverance, hard work, the willingness to roll with the punches of life. All of us at QIU are delighted by his success and desire to reach even greater heights. Well done and may you continue to soar!
