Psychology Student Wins Second National Public Speaking Competition

Psychology undergraduate Jasreena Rais has added another accolade to her considerable public speaking CV, after she was named Champion of the Malaysian National Public Speaking Championship (MNPSC) 2025.

Organised by the Malaysian Institute for Development of Professionals (MIDP) in collaboration with Taylor’s College, the MNPSC is one of the nation’s most highly anticipated platforms for young public speakers. Since its inception in 2019, the championship has brought together aspiring orators from across Malaysia to showcase their skills in speech, persuasion, and critical thinking.

The MNPSC 2025 drew top young talents from around the country, and Jasreena had to battle challengers from Taylor’s University, Brickfields Asia College (BAC), Albukhary International University (AIU) and others. Participants competed in multiple rounds, with each stage testing their poise, articulation, and ability to connect with a diverse audience.

For Jasreena, this victory marks her second national-level triumph. In 2023, she clinched first place at the National Public Speaking Competition organised by The Speech Academy Penang. Read about that victory here.

Reflecting on her MNPSC journey, Jasreena described it as a transformative experience. “Participating in the MNPSC was a truly transformative experience for me, and I’m honoured to have emerged as the champion,” she said. “This journey was about so much more than winning—it was about growth, resilience, and the power of connection. I learned how vulnerability in storytelling can deeply resonate with others and how sharing personal experiences can inspire meaningful conversations.”

Her speech impressed the judges not only for its eloquence but also for its authenticity. She credits the experience with helping her gain confidence, refine her communication skills, and unlock her ability to truly connect with her audience.

“I am proud to have represented QIU and my faculty at this event. Above all, it taught me that our stories, no matter how personal, have the potential to create a positive and lasting impact when shared with authenticity,” she added.

Jasreena’s student successes extend beyond the realm of public speaking, as she was selected for the esteemed Global UGRAD Exchange Programme in 2023. The programme offers undergraduate students from over 60 countries a chance to study in the United States for a semester or academic year at a U.S. college or university.

QIU congratulates Jasreena on her latest achievement and looks forward to witnessing her continued impact as a speaker! Stay tuned to QIU’s platforms for more inspiring stories of student excellence.
