Health Literacy Takes Centre Stage at QIU’s Community Wellness Campaign

The fifth event of Quest International University’s Community Health and Wellness Campaign, led by our Faculty of Medicine, recently brought essential health literacy and medication management education to residents of Flat Harmoni in Buntong.

Organised in partnership with Klinik Kesihatan (KK) Buntong and Perak Women for Women Society (PWW), the half-day event held at KK Buntong in Ipoh focused on improving understanding of non-communicable disease (NCD) management and medication adherence among the local community, particularly older adults, who often display limited understanding of proper medicine use.

The morning began with comprehensive health screenings conducted by KK Buntong staff, followed by an informative session titled “Understanding Your Medication and Over-The-Counter Purchases” by pharmacist Mr Amarjeet Singh and the KK Buntong team.

After a brief refreshment break, participants engaged in an interactive activity session facilitated by Dr Nurul Dayana Mahizir from QIU. Residents tackled scenario-based questions designed to enhance their understanding of proper medication management, learning how different medicines should be consumed and stored correctly.

The event concluded with a lively Q and A session where participants had the opportunity to address their questions directly with the physicians and pharmacists present.

The series will culminate in its sixth and final event – a community walk and health fair themed on “Health for All: Every STEP counts” – scheduled for 7 February 2026.

This campaign supports the achievement of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in line with the University’s mission to demonstrate leadership in community engagement.

Specifically, the campaign addresses SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

As always, we’re very proud of our academics and staff for their commitment to empowering the local community, especially its underserved residents, with the knowledge and resources needed to manage their health effectively.

By dedicating ourselves to the needs of those around us, we are advancing the mission of our Council Chairman, Dato’ Sri Dr Vijay Eswaran, by raising ourselves to help humankind through strategic partnerships between academia, public healthcare, and civil society.
