Advocating sustainable development is a major agenda for Quest International University Perak (QIU) and the university recently embarked on a mission to plant 1 million trees in the state of Perak. This project will be conducted in phases working with interested parties such as Projek Pengurusan Bersepadu Lembangan Hulu Kinta, with the support of Jabatan Pengairan dan Saliran Negeri Perak, Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh and Jabatan Perpaduan Negeri dan Integrasi Nasional Negeri Perak.
Headed by the General Studies Unit of the Faculty of Social Sciences, QIU has already completed 2 phases of tree planting.
In phase one held at Sungai Sayoung, Kuala Kangsar , a total of 40 students and 3 lecturers with the participation of other colleges and students working with Pejabat Perhutanan NEGERI Kuala Kangsar planted 250 trees while phase 2 saw 200 students and 15 lecturers from QIU planting 200 trees along Sungai Kinta river bank in Lahat.
This project is in line with the university’s support and contribution to the sustainable development goals as promoted in the UN Charter. Besides creating a greener planet for our future generations, the university firmly believes that planting trees will raise the awareness of students and the community on the importance of environment protection and conservation.
We congratulate all lecturers and students for participating in this very meaningful effort and look forward to future phases of tree planting in line with the mission of planting 1 million trees.
