QIU Celebrates Sri Lankan Culture with Vibrant Festival on Campus

Quest International University (QIU) came alive with the sights, sounds, and flavours of Sri Lanka as students from the island nation organized a lively cultural festival on campus.

The event showcased the rich heritage of Sri Lanka through traditional performances, cuisine, and artistic displays, fostering a sense of unity and appreciation among students from diverse backgrounds.

The festival was graced by esteemed guests, including the Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, HE M. I. Mohamed Rizvi, QIU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Zita Mohd Fahmi, QIU Chief Operating Officer Nicholas Goh, QIU Registrar Muhammad MG Omar, and event director Ahangama Gallage Pooja Nelumi. Their presence underscored the university’s commitment to cultural diversity and inclusivity.

The event saw enthusiastic participation, with local and international students, staff, and faculty members gathered to celebrate Sri Lanka’s rich cultural legacy.

Attendees were treated to captivating traditional performances, including vibrant dance routines, mesmerizing music, and games that highlighted Sri Lanka’s history and traditions. The festival also featured an array of authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, offering a taste of the island nation’s unique flavors.

To ensure that the dishes on offer were as authentic as possible, our students were directly involved in the food preparation, guiding the process along.

Ms. Ahangama Gallage Pooja Nelumi expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support and participation: “I actually felt it, because I usually celebrate this festival every year.  When I was here, I felt left out because I saw the TV shows about the games happening in Sri Lanka. I’m really happy that the university supported us to celebrate the event here.”

The success of the event further cemented QIU’s reputation as a multicultural hub that values and celebrates the traditions of its international student community. The Sri Lankan Cultural Festival was not just a showcase of heritage but also a testament to the power of cultural exchange in fostering global friendships and understanding.

We are extremely grateful to Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka HE M. I. Mohamed Rizvi, and the High Commission of Sri Lanka for their support and presence during our event. QIU looks forward to more vibrant cultural celebrations in the future!
