QIU Biotech Day Attracts Future Scientists, Inspires Them to Shape a Better Tomorrow

The buzz around biotechnology has been gaining volume in recent years, and rightfully so. It is science’s best new hope for making headway against the complex, multi-front challenges that presently confront humanity.

By harnessing the power of nature and with the help of genetic engineering, biotechnology is paving the way for products and technologies that will improve our lives and restore the health of our planet.

Surely, when the fruits of biotech research are shared on a global scale, they will make massive breakthroughs in our ability to save lives, fuel our industrial societies, and feed the world; all while living sustainably, in harmony with nature.

Sustainability is, of course, at the heart of Quest International University’s (QIU) educational mission. We’re immensely proud of our passionate life-science graduates and academics who are busy crafting cutting-edge biotech solutions that promise a better tomorrow for all humankind.

Similarly, QIU is committed to training future life scientists and equipping them with the skills and drive needed to make their mark in this booming industry.

Continuing this commitment, our Faculty of Integrated Life Sciences (FILS) recently organised QIU Biotech Day 2023 for the benefit of local high-school students, who energised the event with their enthusiasm for the sciences.

The day-long showcase, with the tagline ‘inspire, innovate, ignite,’ took place on campus on 9 December and featured insightful lectures and enriching hands-on activities that both educated participants and inspired them to consider careers in biotechnology.

Gracing the occasion were our guests of honour: Puan Haniza bt Subari – Timbalan PPD, Sektor Pembelajaran, PPD Kinta Utara, who inaugurated the event; Encik Noorhazainol bin Derahin – Pegawai School Improvement Specialist Coaches (SISC+), Sektor Pembelajaran, Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah Kinta Utara; and QIU Registrar Mr Muhammad MG Omar.

During the event, participants were treated to stimulating talks on ‘Recombinant DNA Technology’ by Ts. Dr Kamariah Hasan, and on the ‘Roles and Applications of Biotechnology’ by Ts. Dr Teh Chui Yao.

They also immersed themselves in lab experiments exploring the breadth of biotechnology, including plant in-vitro tissue culture, fermentation technology, basics of PCR, DNA electrophoresis, and genetic engineering.

A big shout-out to our visitors for contributing to the success of Biotech Day 2023! Your keen interest in this trailblazing science warms our hearts. And to our academics, well done! Your dedication to nurturing the next generation of life scientists is truly commendable.
