Learning is all about opening our minds to different perspectives, and we’re always glad to share knowledge with students and academics from different countries.
QIU had the pleasure of hosting a group of final-year students who are pursuing a Doctor in Clinical Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from India’s Al-Shifa College of Pharmacy as part of a global immersion programme here recently.
The global immersion programme is part of our collaboration with Al-Shifa, underlined by a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two parties in February 2023.
Our guests are from one of the highest-ranked pharmacy institutes in India and the top in the state of Kerala.
For two weeks, they learned about clinical pharmacy practices in Malaysia through workshops and talks as well as hospital and pharmacy attachments.
The attachment program was started with an opening meeting presided over by Faculty of Pharmacy Dean Prof. Datuk Dr. Allan Mathews, in the presence of Deputy Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ng Yen Ping and other members of the Faculty of Pharmacy.
The attachment consisted of various clinical pharmacy-related academic activities, including the following:
- Seminar on “Transformation of Clinical Pharmacy in Malaysia” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ng Yen Ping;
- Seminar on “Medication Therapy Adherence Clinic- Diabetes” by Ms. Ng Yee Mei;
- Seminar on “Methadone Replacement Programme in Malaysia” by Mr Hanif, Pharmacist, Malaysian Health Clinic
- Sharing session on challenges of community pharmacies in Malaysia by Dr Tan Boon Seng
- Process-driven problem-based learning and a hands-on workshop on ECG interpretation conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ng Yen Ping.
- A 4-day hospital attachment, including medical wards, cardiology wards, infection control wards, total parenteral nutrition units, therapeutic drug monitoring unit, cytotoxic drug reconstitution units and Mediation therapy adherence clinics at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, Ipoh, Perak
- Attachment with our industry partner HTM Pharmacy for 2 days.
These attachments and activities helped them to understand the significant roles of the pharmacist in Malaysia’s hospital and clinical pharmacies.

Our guests said the immersion proved to be an unmitigated success, sharing that the entire two-week program had a profoundly positive impact on their education!
To our guests, we had a wonderful time welcoming you to Malaysia and QIU! We’re excited to work together with you!
