For many students, preparing for the IELTS examination is about more than achieving a required score—it is a journey of personal growth, resilience, and self-discovery.
This was certainly the case for students enrolled in QIU’s IELTS preparatory programme. Despite facing significant challenges at the start of their English-learning journey, they demonstrated that determination, guided support, and consistent effort can turn obstacles into achievements.
Among them was Chinese citizen Bruce, who began his IELTS preparation in October 2025. Like many learners, he initially felt overwhelmed by the demands of the examination and uncertain about how to approach his studies.
“At the very beginning, I was totally at a loss,” he recalled. “Faced with the complicated test points of listening, reading, writing and speaking, a messy study plan without any direction, as well as the time pressure from further study, I was trapped in anxiety and confusion every day.“
Things began to change when Bruce joined the programme to receive intensive IELTS guidance. Through personalised study plans, detailed feedback, and continuous encouragement, Bruce gradually developed the confidence and discipline needed to tackle the examination systematically.
Over the following six months, he dedicated himself to daily practice, strengthening his vocabulary, refining his writing and speaking skills, and addressing weaknesses one step at a time. His hard work eventually paid off when he successfully achieved the IELTS score required for his academic progression.
“From confusion and breakdown to steady progress, I have not only improved my score, but also learned the meaning of perseverance,” he said. “All the daily effort eventually turned into unexpected surprises.”
For fellow student Nicole Li, the journey was equally transformative. When she enrolled in the programme, English represented one of the greatest barriers she had ever faced. Years of struggling with the language had left her lacking confidence in her abilities.
“I used to be someone who failed the English test in the Chinese college entrance examination and failed the CET-4 in China,” she said. “In the face of English, I was more afraid and scared.”
The turning point came when she realised that improvement would require persistence rather than perfection. Days in the classroom were followed by long evenings in the library, where she reviewed mistakes, expanded her vocabulary, and immersed herself in English reading materials. There were moments of frustration and self-doubt, but each setback strengthened her determination to improve.
“I realized that English is a language of communication and is merely a language. There is no need to be afraid,” she reflected.
As QIU continues to provide students with opportunities for academic and personal growth, stories like these serve as a powerful reminder that determination, coupled with the right guidance, can unlock potential that students may not yet see in themselves.
