FBM “Money $ense” Workshop Boosts Financial Awareness in the Community

Financial literacy involves understanding and applying key financial skills such as personal financial management, budgeting, and investing. It forms the foundation for building a healthy relationship with money.

This is a necessary skill, especially for communities that seek financial stability and economic empowerment. QIU, in recognising this need, recently collaborated with Jabatan Pembangunan Wanita Perak to organise the Financial Literacy Workshop themed “Money $ense”.

Being literate can help individuals begin a lifelong path of understanding their finances. The sooner a person starts to become financially educated, the better off they will be, because education is the key to a prosperous financial future.

Spearheaded by QIU’s SDG Leadership Committee and facilitated by lecturers from the Faculty of Business and Management (FBM), the workshop was conducted to help B40 participants gain the necessary practical skills and financial knowledge.

The one-day workshop, conducted by FBM academics Mr Mior Ahmad Jafri, Mr Zuraideey Johari, and Mr Mahmond Saidek, fulfilled QIU’s aims to build financial awareness, inculcate good financial sense and practices and position itself as a hub of financial literacy knowledge

The event featured interactive discussions on financial planning, budgeting, and saving strategies. Participants engaged in hands-on activities designed to reinforce smart financial habits, while experienced facilitators provided practical guidance on investment and risk management.

This initiative underscores QIU’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education and SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, reflecting the university’s dedication to community engagement and lifelong learning.

By collaborating with local stakeholders, QIU continues to empower individuals with the knowledge and confidence to make informed financial decisions, contributing to a more financially resilient society.

The success of the ‘Money $ense’ workshop not only highlights the power of education beyond the classroom but also reinforces QIU’s role as a driver of social and economic progress. As the university continues to lead similar initiatives, it remains dedicated to creating positive, lasting change through education and community collaboration.
