School Of Engineering (SOE)

Engineering @ QIU

THE SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING aims to provide quality engineering education in the fields of electronics and communication, control, automation and robotics that promote and raise the level of Engineering and Technology knowledge among its graduates.

The school’s programmes include Diploma in Mechatronics Engineering, Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering with Honours and relevant postgraduate programmes.

Education Pathway

Experiential

UNIKL INTERNATIONAL ROBATTLE COMPETITION

Competitions like the UniKL International Robattle Competition 2019 allows our students to learn innovative techniques while developing their ideas and skills. In the heat of competition, students learn the importance of working as a team to achieve a common goal, which helps prepare them for the challenges of their future careers.

Engagement

INNOCAFE EXHIBITION in conjunction with IR4.0

At the Innocafe Exhibition, QIU embarked on a research collaboration with UiTM to create research environments incorporating the Internet of Things (IoT) and Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0). Organised by the Malaysian Productivity Cooperation (MPC) and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), this initiative aims to enhance and develop students’ talents by blending industry and technological expertise.

Enrichment

Proton Plant Visit

We’re fortunate to have the home of national carmaker Proton located right here in our state! Field trips to the Proton plant in Tanjung Malim give our students and academics comprehensive exposure to the automotive industry, particularly on engine and assembly plants.

  1. Engine Plant: From the precision of machining components to the assembly of complex engine systems, the students gained insights into the mechatronic aspects of engine production. The application of robotics and automation in engine manufacturing left a lasting impression on how these technologies will enhance efficiency and precision.
  2. Assembly Plant: Moving on to the assembly plant, students observed the orchestration of various mechatronic systems working in harmony to assemble fully functional vehicles. They saw how theoretical knowledge in mechatronics translates into real-world applications on the assembly floor.
  3.  Integration with Mechatronics: Understanding the synergy between mechanical and electronic elements in the automotive industry deepens their appreciation for the interdisciplinary nature of mechatronics
  4. Networking and Industry Insights: The students gained valuable insights into the current trends and challenges within the automotive sector, providing a glimpse into potential career paths and opportunities in the automotive industry.

TALK ON ROADS FOR ENGINEERS

The School of Engineering (SoE) proudly hosted Director of Mega Jati Consultant Sdn Bhd Ir Dr Muhammad Arkam Che Munaaim who shared his expertise on the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and the Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM)’s Roads for Engineers. The talk was part of the Faculty of Science and Technology’s Heart-to-Heart with Science series.

ELECTRO- PNEUMATICS EQUIPMENT TRAINING

Automation System specialists FESTECH Sdn. Bhd hosted a training session for QIU’s Mechatronics Engineering lecturers on electro-pneumatic systems. This training ensured that our educators were able to pass on the latest cutting-edge knowledge and skills to their students, especially in electo-pneumatic laboratory practical sessions.

VEX ROBOT (CLAWBOT) INSTALLATION

Dr. Nurul Rawaida and Mr. Anas Hambali from the School of Engineering conducted training for the mechatronics students to assemble and program VEX Robot robotic arms

INTRODUCTION TO SOLIDWORKS

School of Engineering (SoE) conducted an Introduction to Solidworks session by Dr. Helmi & Dr. Fadzil for the Mechatronics students in November 2019. This provided students with in-depth knowledge of designing and testing mechanical parts, as well as the assembly process using comprehensive design software.

Excellence

QIU WINS 18 AWARDS AT MALAYSIA TECHNOLOGY EXPO 2019

Students and academics from our Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) swept a splendid 19 awards at the 2019 Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) in Kuala Lumpur. It was a truly excellent achievement as the MTE–held from Feb 21 to 23 at the Putra World Trade Centre–is an international exposition that highlights excellence in inventions and innovation.

Although QIU was among the few private universities to participate in this competition, our students and academics took it in their stride as they competed against more than 500 projects by government agencies such as Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) and the Malaysia Nuclear Agency, local public universities, and entrants from as far as Taiwan, Croatia, the Philippines and the United States.
