QIU has reaffirmed its warm and growing relationship with the Government of Seychelles following an official visit by a high-level delegation led by His Excellency David Claude Pierre, the Seychelles Minister of Education and Human Resource Development.
We were honoured by the Minister’s presence in Ipoh and the opportunity to welcome him and the delegation, especially as the visit also created a meaningful occasion to meet Seychellois students and exchange ideas on future cooperation.

The delegation comprised several distinguished representatives from the Republic of Seychelles, including Mr John Thomas Lesperance, Special Advisor to the Minister for Education and Human Resource Development; Mr Bernard Arnephy, Principal Secretary for Education Support and Projects; and Ms Francoise Lisette Mein, Director General of Careers and Further Education Development. Also accompanying the delegation were Mr Kabilan Muniandy, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Seychelles in Malaysia, and Mr Gobinath Nadarajan, Assistant to the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Seychelles in Malaysia.
During the engagement, both sides discussed ways to expand their collaboration across education, research, healthcare, agriculture and innovation, building on a partnership that has continued to gain momentum over the past year.
In May 2025, QIU entered into a Memorandum of Agreement with Seychelles’ Ministry of Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment to support climate-smart farming, capacity building and knowledge transfer, with tailored programmes in biotechnology, sustainable farming, environmental technology, plant tissue culture and agricultural technology.

That collaboration was further strengthened in August 2025, when QIU announced a new degree pathway for students from the Seychelles Institute of Agriculture and Horticulture, allowing them to progress directly into life science degree programmes at QIU. The university said the initiative reflected both parties’ shared commitment to agricultural education, sustainability and long-term capacity-building, while also broadening opportunities for Seychellois students to study in Malaysia.
QIU expresses its sincere appreciation to the Minister and the Seychelles delegation for travelling all the way to Ipoh and for taking the time to engage with the university community.
The visit was both meaningful and inspiring, paving the way for even more impactful collaborations and enduring ties between QIU and the Republic of Seychelles.
