Knowledge is one of the most powerful forms of protection—especially when it comes to understanding one’s physical, sexual, and mental well-being.
Recognising the importance of equipping young adults with the confidence to make informed decisions and support one another, QIU recently hosted a thought-provoking physical and sexual health talk as part of its Empower Yourself Series, creating a safe space for students to learn, reflect, and engage in meaningful conversations about health, respect, and self-care.
The session brought together students to explore key aspects of physical and sexual health, with discussions centred on healthy sexual practices, sexual assault prevention, self-care, and the importance of seeking timely support when needed. The programme also highlighted the mental health resources available within the University, ensuring students are aware of the avenues of assistance and guidance accessible to them throughout their academic journey.
Designed to educate, raise awareness, and empower participants, the talk encouraged students to take an active role in safeguarding both their physical and mental well-being. Through open and respectful discussions, attendees gained a deeper understanding of the importance of consent, personal boundaries, healthy relationships, and responsible decision-making.
Beyond knowledge sharing, the event created a welcoming space for meaningful conversations surrounding topics that are often considered sensitive. By encouraging honest dialogue and reducing the stigma associated with seeking help, the session strengthened the University’s culture of care and mutual support among students and staff.
Participants also learned how to recognise when they or their peers may require assistance, reinforcing the importance of looking out for one another and fostering a compassionate campus environment. The positive engagement throughout the session reflected a growing commitment among students to advocate for mental health, support peers experiencing difficulties, and contribute to a more inclusive and understanding university community.
The physical and sexual health talk forms part of the wider Empower Yourself Series—a transformative initiative dedicated to nurturing mental well-being and cultivating lifelong self-care practices. Through a range of workshops and discussions, the series equips participants with practical tools, valuable insights, and supportive networks to navigate personal challenges while embracing self-discovery and growth.
By continuing to champion holistic health and well-being initiatives, QIU remains committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and empowering learning environment where every student is supported to thrive academically, personally, and socially.
