USMLE pathway for QIU MBBS students

Quest International University Perak (QIU) has always emphasised on producing graduates who are employable and contribute to society upon graduation. With the growing number of international students pursuing the MBBS programme, the university has proactively prepared students to sit for the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE).

As foreign medical graduates are unable to do their housemanship in Malaysia, the USMLE pathway will allow them to do it in the United States apart from returning to their home country to do so.

The university always strives to provide the best for its students and this was proven when QIU and Kaplan Medical inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2017 which is in line with QIU’s continuous efforts to ensure that its programmes are of global standards as 3 out of 4 doctors who prepped for the USMLE, prepped with Kaplan.

Recently, Dr Judson Epperly, Global Director of Kaplan Medical spoke to the medical students on campus where he gave an in depth talk about understanding the USMLE Exams, application process and timeline, shared some tips to increase student’s  chances and USMLE preparation options.

Dr Epperly commended QIU on being proactive in not only providing students an avenue through USMLE, but ensuring they are successful in the exams.

“Having travelled the world talking to students interested in the USMLE, QIU is among the very few universities who shows so much interest in ensuring their students are successful.

“You are indeed very lucky to be studying at QIU. You will surely have a competitive edge sitting for the examination while studying at QIU as the university trains you from Day 1 with their assessment models following USMLE standard,” said Dr. Epperly.

Also on hand to speak to the students was Mr. Hareen Theivasigamany  from Nugrahan Sdn Bhd who enlightened questions students had on procedures to start the USMLE registration and examinations.

The USMLE is a flexible three step specialist licensing examination providing everything a medical student needs to become a specialist. Students can sit for the first two steps of the USMLE in Malaysia. For the third step they can apply for selection to institutions in the US. This approach cuts down on the duration of overall training and allows medical graduates to become specialist under the age of 30.
