Spurring The SDGs: School Of Communication Academic Wins Top Prize at Sustainability Conference

We’re proud to report that our Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) recently added more silverware to the trophy cabinet when Ms Law Yee Chin from the School of Communication won the Best Poster Presentation award at the inaugural Strategic Communication for a Sustainable Future Colloquium 2024 organised by Universiti Putra Malaysia.

She and two of her peers excelled in a field of fifty-plus participants from universities across the country – including the hosts, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, Multimedia University, and INTI International University.

Ms Law’s presentation brought to life the finer points of the ‘Reezy’ project she led at QIU – named after the friendly robot mascot at the heart of the campaign – which sought to make the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) relatable and actionable in daily life. She elucidated the strategies underpinning her creative communication concept, aimed at empowering local voices with a focus on engaging the community through interactive storytelling.

It comes as no surprise that her presentation dazzled the judges, given her track record of leading award-winning CSR initiatives in the corporate sector and Quest International University’s deep commitment to sustainability and community engagement.

Her success follows hot on the heels of other FSS academics earning accolades nationwide, winning silver at the Innovation Showcase 2024 (Universiti Putra Malaysia) and bronze at the ULUL ALBAB Innovation Competition Exhibition (Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris) for their learning innovations designed to equalise and optimise education.

Speaking about the experience, Ms Law said, “the event provided a fantastic opportunity to network and forge new connections with like-minded professionals, which I truly value for both personal and professional growth.”

The Strategic Communication for a Sustainable Future Colloquium 2024 was organised by the Faculty of Modern Language and Communication at Universiti Putra Malaysia in collaboration with Affin Bank Berhad. The inaugural event featured 80 participants from industry and academia, including students.

The colloquium welcomed research on a broad range of topics related to SDG #4: Quality Education – including artificial intelligence in strategic communication, digital transformation and communication strategies, data analytics in communications, crisis communication and management, and many more.

Congratulations, Ms Law Yee Chin, on your stellar achievement!  We have no doubt that your ideas will inspire greater public and academic participation in SDG initiatives and build bridges to a more sustainable future for us all.
