· Faculty of Medicine (FoM) Dean appointed to Malaysia’s elite medical body.

· Dato’ Dr Sellaiah S. Pillay will be one of nine university representatives in the council—a great honour for any academic.

QIU is proud to announce that the Dean of our Faculty of Medicine, Professor Dato’ Dr Sellaiah S. Pillay has been appointed as a member of the Malaysian Medical Council.

A graduate of the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in Belgaum, India, Dato’ Dr Sellaiah will be one of the MMC’s nine representatives for universities and will serve a three-year term.

Established in 1971, the MMC aims to ensure the highest standards of medical ethics, education and practice, in the interest of patients, public and the profession through the fair and effective administration of the Medical Act.

Being appointed to the council is an honour for medical professionals across the country, and Dato’ Dr Sellaiah is definitely a deserving appointee.

Joining the medical profession in 1979, Dato’ Dr Sellaiah has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the civil service, culminating in a 13-year stint as Head of Radiological Services for the State of Perak & Senior Consultant Radiologist & Head of Department of Radiology at Ipoh’s Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB).

He then held the post of Consultant Radiologist at Hospital Teluk Intan from 2011 to 2017, before joining QIU three years ago.

“It’s an incredible honour to sit on such a prestigious council – the highest order for medical professionals in Malaysia. I must thank the management for all their support,” said Dato’ Dr Sellaiah.

Congratulations once again to our beloved dean on this exceptional achievement, which once again puts QIU and our academics in the national limelight!
