QIU Continues To Excel At Penang International Halal Chef Challenge

Coming on the heels of a stellar performance at the Malaysian Technology Expo 2019, QIU’s students and lecturers have excelled yet again at a national competition.

This time, our School of Hospitality students and lecturers made us all proud by winning two bronze medals and two diploma awards at the recent 6th Penang International Halal Chef Challenge.

In the Malaysian modern cuisine category, the teams of Harwind Nallasamy, Sukhenthan Vethi Velle, and Durgashini Sive Kumaran; and Nur Izzati Zurain Abdullah, Lee Bao Ying, and Lau Khai Yann grabbed the bronze medal from a field of 20 competitors.

Meanwhile, Ms Siti Arija Wardati Mohd Rusli and Shahida Noor Shah Nazim won diploma awards in the My Kerabu and My Burger categories respectively.

The challenge, which is part of the Penang International Halal Expo and Conference 2019, saw participation from students and professionals in the hospitality, tourism and culinary industry.

These included hoteliers and chef associations like Vouk Hotel, Olive Tree Hotel, Ramada Hotel, Johor Chef Association, and Malaysian Petroleum Club. Other public and private universities from Malaysia and beyond were also part of the competition.

In front of a panel of internationally-renowned judges, our teams demonstrated their top-class gastronomic and artistic culinary skills.

QIU’s awesome performance continued our success streak at the Halal Chef competition, as we also won bronze in the Modern Malaysian Cuisine category last year.

Congratulations to our stellar students and lecturers for making the University proud!
