QIU Alumna Wins Best Pharmacy Graduate Gold Medal Award at National Pharmacists Convention

It’s only been a matter of days since we had some fantastic news from the Faculty of Pharmacy—and they’ve already followed it up with another reason to celebrate!

Leo Shann Ling, a distinguished alumna from the graduating class of 2022, has been honoured with the esteemed Malaysian Pharmacists Society-Duopharma Biotech Gold Medal Award for the Best Pharmacy Graduate during the National Pharmacists Convention 2023.

This follows hot on the heels of the faculty’s dean Professor Datuk Dr Allan Mathews’ appointment to the Pharmacy Board Malaysia last week.

It’s also the second time that one of our graduates have won this accolade, as Cheong Hui Yin was named as one of the recipients of the 2020 Gold Medal Award.

The award recognises outstanding final year pharmacy students in Malaysia who are nominated by their universities for exceptional academic performances and co-curricular activities.

Shann Ling, who is currently doing her housemanship attachment at the Pharmaceutical Services Division of Perak’s Department of Health, graduated with Distinction in her Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) programme.

Datuk Dr Allan said this recognition was a testament to Shann Ling’s exceptional academic achievements, outstanding leadership qualities, and dedication to the pharmacy profession.

“Throughout her academic journey at Quest International University, Shann Ling demonstrated unparalleled excellence in her studies, consistently attaining top grades and showcasing exceptional problem-solving abilities,” he said.

“Beyond academic excellence, Leo also actively participated in various student organisations, taking on leadership roles, and was the organising chairman for the Quest Pharmacy Students Society’s (QPSS) 2019 Public Health Campaign.”

Shann Ling also published her undergraduate research entitled “Challenges of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Usage of Lithium in Managing Psychiatric Disorders: A Review” in the Journal “Progress in Drug Discovery and Biomedical Science”.

Our heartiest congratulations go out to Shann Ling and the Faculty of Pharmacy for yet another sterling achievement! Keep shining!
