Community service is an integral part of the education of our nation’s youth. Understanding this, QIU’s curriculum focuses on developing caring graduates.
During this current challenging time of the Covid-19 pandemic, students studying the Community service course were asked to organise an online fund-raising event to raise funds to be used for purchasing goods for those in need.
It was a new experience for all the students in trying to raise funds online to help the needy and the opportunity presented itself with many challenges. The whole objective of this fund-raising was to make the students aware that there are still people out there in this world who are suffering to get their daily needs.
After raising funds, representatives from each cohort of community service class (Degree and Diploma) made a visit to Good Shepherd Home (due to MCO, it was not advised that the entire cohort visits the home).
All the students taking the community service course worked extremely hard over the span of 12 weeks to raise funds amounting to MYR 6774.00 for Good Shepherd Home.
The fund-raising activities ranged from online competitions, online games and online handicraft sales done by students in groups. From the funds collected, items that were donated consisted of groceries, mattresses, bed-sheets, pillows and others.
Lunch as well as snacks were also provided for the children. Residents and staff at Good Shepherd’s home were very happy and grateful for whatever that was given to them which made students humbled on how little it takes to make someone happy.
Kudos to everyone who made this meaningful event a reality.
