Mathematics came to life for secondary school students from across Ipoh as QIU’s Faculty of Computing and Engineering hosted an engaging SPM Mathematics Workshop designed to make learning more interactive while giving students a glimpse into life at university.
Conducted by Ms Abhineshwary Bhalraj, the workshop moved beyond conventional revision by using interactive activities to help students revisit mathematical concepts and build greater confidence in applying them.
The programme began with an interactive Mathematics Quiz, encouraging students to recall key concepts from the Form 1 to Form 3 syllabus through a fun and engaging format. This was followed by an SPM-focused session featuring questions relevant to the 2026 examination, giving students an opportunity to put their knowledge into practice and become more familiar with examination-style questions.
More than an academic exercise, the workshop also gave students the opportunity to experience learning in a university environment.
Following the workshop, participants went on a tour of the QIU campus, exploring its facilities and gaining a first-hand look at the learning environment and opportunities available at the university.
For many young students, stepping onto a university campus can be an important first introduction to life beyond secondary school. By bringing school students into its learning environment, QIU aims to make higher education more familiar and accessible while encouraging them to think about their aspirations beyond the SPM examination.

The initiative reflects QIU’s role as a hub of education for the local community, where its facilities, expertise and academic environment can be shared with learners at different stages of their educational journey.
Through initiatives such as the SPM Mathematics workshop, QIU continues to support secondary school students not only in strengthening their academic foundations, but also in discovering that learning can be engaging, collaborative and enjoyable.
More importantly, the experience offers students a glimpse of what lies ahead — inspiring them to set their sights on higher education and consider the possibilities that await them beyond school.
