Faculty of Social Sciences Dean Appointed Malaysian English Language Teaching Association President

In the latest recognition of QIU’s regional academic standing, we’re proud to announce that another of our faculty leaders has been appointed to a prestigious national education post.

Faculty of Social Sciences Dean Professor Dr Sivabala Naidu has been elected President of the Malaysian English Language Teaching Association (MELTA) at its recent 62nd Annual General Meeting.

He joins a list of QIU academics who have received appointments to similarly illustrious positions in their respective fields—including Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof Dato’ Dr Sellaiah S. Pillay (Malaysian Medical Council) and Faculty of Pharmacy Dean Prof Datuk Dr Allan Mathews (Pharmacy Board Malaysia; Pharmacy Deans’ Council of Malaysia).

MELTA is a voluntary, not-for-profit professional national-level organisation that aims to contribute towards the advancement of English language education in Malaysia and the region.

Prof Siva’s MELTA presidency is a deserving honour for an educator and leader with four decades of experience at all levels of education. He is a PhD holder in Critical Discourse Analysis with research interests in sociolinguistics in education and continuous professional development for teachers, and has administrative experience in numerous private universities and the Ministry of Education.

He has presented at many international conferences and webinars such as the Jaypee Institute of Information Technology’s webinar on academic writing (2024), Asian Perspectives on English Language Teaching (2021) and the TEFLIN Conference in Makassar, (2018).

“Stewarding the advancement of English in Malaysia is an impactful responsibility because I truly believe that it can change lives. Let us embrace the power of language education to unite, empower and transform. Together, we will pave the path for a brighter future through the universal language of learning,” said Prof Siva.
