Tripartite MOU sees QIU working on latest technology

The spirit of innovation is one of Quest International University Perak (QIU)’s main tenets as it continuously pursues fields of study that focus on helping mankind and making a difference in the world. This was reinforced with the signing of a tripartite MOU between QIU, Elliance Sdn Bhd and Duospark Resources Sdn Bhd.

This smart partnership will see the university working on the much talked about Maintenance 4.0 which is a an extension of Industry Revolution 4.0. The end result will be the implementation of data acquisition module to conventional machines in the manufacturing industry, analyse and mine data to achieve predictive maintenance before the machine/system actually fails. In short, this will make the conventional factories “Smart”.

The MOU was signed by Mr. Nicholas Goh, Chief Operating Officer of QIU, Mr. Cheng Boon Seng, Director for Elliance Sdn Bhd and Mr. Yong Chong Soon, Director for Duospark Resources Sdn Bhd. YB Dr Ong Kian Ming, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry was on hand to witness the signing ceremony which took place at Semicon Southeast Asia in Kuala Lumpur.

SEMICON Southeast Asia has become an important exposition for the electronics industry in Southeast Asia. The show connects the decision makers from the industry, demonstrates the most advanced products and brings in the most up-to-date market and technology trends.

Industry 4.0 is a name given to the current trend of automation and data exchange in industrial technologies. It includes the Industrial Internet of things (IIoT), wireless sensors, cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. Industry 4.0 is commonly referred to as the fourth industrial revolution.

Maintenance 4.0 is a machine-assisted digital version of all the things we have being doing for the past forty years as humans to ensure our assets deliver value for our organization. Maintenance 4.0 includes a holistic view of sources of data, ways to connect, ways to collect, ways to analyze and recommended actions to take in order to ensure asset function (reliability) and value (asset management) are digitally assisted.

Kudos to faculty members for making this smart partnership a reality as students and lecturers will benefit tremendously working on latest trends in the industry.
