FACULTY OF PHARMACY HOSTS TALK ON THE EVOLUTION OF PERSONALISED MEDICINE

Regardless of who we are or where we come from, advances in healthcare and medicine touch us all.

As part of the Faculty of Pharmacy’s Continuous Professional Development Programme for staff and students of the University, QIU proudly welcomed yet another renowned guest speaker to its halls to enlighten us about how personalised medicine is transforming in the modern era.

We were honoured to have Universiti Sains Malaysia Honorary Professor and Hovid Berhad’s Executive Director Professor Dr Yuen Kah Hay speaking on the ‘Evolution of Personalised Medicine’ at the QIU Auditorium.

With decades of academic and industry experience and over 150 published research papers under his belt, Professor Dr Yuen is an expert pharmacist who leads a team in drug formulation, product development and bioequivalence studies. He is also the lead investigator of several clinical studies.

Professor Dr Yuen delved into several fascinating topics in his talk, including stem cell and gene therapy as well as advances in genomics.

On top of that, he also explored how specific and targeted drug delivery systems could improve therapeutic outcomes, and compared genomic and phenotyping methods for customising drug therapy in disease management.

Informative and engaging, the talk was well-received by the students, members of the public, and staff who were in attendance, including QIU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dato’ Dr. Raman Narayanasamy, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Prof Datuk Dr Allan Mathews and Deputy Deans of the Faculty of Pharmacy Prof Dr Syed Atif Abbas and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Long Chiau Ming.

Congratulations to the Faculty of Pharmacy for organising this event and thanks to Professor Yuen for his time and invaluable insight!
