SMI Takes Top Spot at Accounting and Finance Quiz 1.0

QIU’s first Accounting and Finance Quiz (AFQ 1.0) opened with a bang last weekend, with over 180 students from 20 schools testing their skills and know-how in the field of finance.

After a day of fierce competition, it was SMK St Michael Ipoh who triumphed over the field, winning a RM 400 cash prize, book vouchers, medals and a QIU scholarship.

The champions conquered challenges from as far as Kampar, Kuala Kangsar and Manjung, who made the journey to QIU to battle it out for bragging rights.

Rounding off the top 3 were Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Sultan Azlan Shah and SMK Menglembu, who finished in second and third respectively.

In total, over 180 secondary school students participated in the competition, which was designed to boost interest in the fields of finance and accounting among secondary schools in Perak.

Besides the challenge of competition, the competition gave the participants a chance to learn about indemnity and the accounting profession in a fun atmosphere.

The Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) also supported the event by giving a career talk to the participating students.

The teams consisted of four students each, who were challenged to test their accounting and finance knowledge via a series of tough questions. They had to navigate three rounds – a preliminary round, a buzzer round and of course, the nerve-racking finals.

And after the three rounds of heated competition, one thing is for sure – there is a lot of accounting talent right here in our backyard.

Kudos to the winners as well as our talented team of organisers from the Faculty of Business and Management for putting together an incredible show!
