QIUP Senior Lecturer recipient of coveted Fulbright U.S.- ASEAN Visiting Scholar Initiative Award

Quest International University Perak (QIUP) has the great honour to announce Dr Chuck Chuan Ng, Senior Lecturer and Programme Coordinator (Environmental Technology) as the recipient of the 2018/2019 Fulbright U.S.-ASEAN Visiting Scholar Award. He is the principal candidate representing Malaysia for this award.

The Fulbright U.S.-ASEAN Visiting Scholar Initiative under the United States Department of State, provides opportunities for nationals of the ten ASEAN Member States (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam) from universities, foreign ministries, government officials and professional staff from the private sector, think tanks and NGOs to travel to the United States for scholarly and professional research for about four months on priority issues that are relevant and central to the U.S.-ASEAN relationship.

The main objective of this Initiative is to deepen people-to-people engagement and strengthen the educational ties among all ten-member nations of ASEAN, while emphasizing the importance of bilateral understanding between ASEAN and the United States.

This much coveted Fulbright research scholarship is awarded to deserving Malaysian scholars who have displayed exemplary skills and knowledge in their respective fields and area of study. Dr Chuck, Programme Coordinator of the Environmental Technology Programme, School of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), QIUP received this award under the Applied Environmental Sciences (Soil Pollution and Bioremediation) field of study.

QIUP is very much aware of the increasing public concern and the need for awareness of protection for global environmental issues, and so is very committed to make a difference to fulfill the country’s need in managing, conserving and protecting the environment for sustainability. Both the Diploma in Environmental Technology and Bachelor of Environmental Technology (Hons) offered by the School of Biological Sciences under the Faculty of Science and Technology, QIUP  are examples of some of the University’s efforts towards meeting  the country’s and global need for human capital that can assist in achieving the UN’s sustainable development goals.

At QIUP, the University always aspires to be a model research-led private university with global strategic linkages oriented to deliver quality programmes and interdisciplinary research of international standing. The recognition of this Fulbright award to Dr Chuck highlights the significance of the on-going QIUP’s achievements in inter-disciplinary research and innovation with various international collaborative premier universities and centres of excellence.

During the entire period of academic and research scholarly visitation to the U.S., Dr Chuck will be hosted by Associate Professor Dr Fengxiang Han, from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Jackson State University (JSU), Jackson, Mississippi, United States for the collaborative research studies entitled “Critical Evaluation and Adaptation of Phytoremediation for Soil Heavy Metals Pollution in the United States of America and Malaysia”. This will go a long way towards the University’s efforts not only to lend its expertise in solving local, regional and global environmental problems but will also enhance QIUP’s students learning experience.

We take this opportunity to congratulate Dr Chuck on his excellent achievement and wish him all the best during his trip to United States.
