Quest International University’s (QIU) ongoing Community Health and Wellness campaign continues to inspire locals toward healthier living with the successful completion of its third workshop in a series of six.
The half-day event, held at Klinik Kesihatan (KK) Buntong, encouraged participants to engage in regular physical activity as a safeguard against severe illness. For context, the World Health Organization reports that physical inactivity increases the risk of death from non-communicable diseases (NCDs) by up to 30 per cent in adults, especially senior citizens.
Conceived and steered by QIU’s Faculty of Medicine, this campaign is a private-public collaboration with the Ministry of Health (KKM) and the Perak Women for Women Society (PWW), benefitting the public housing residents of Flat Harmoni, Buntong.
Highlights of the workshop included a follow-up health check for participants –including BMI, blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol – courtesy of the KK Buntong staff led by Dr. Subashini Ambigapathy.
Afterwards, Prof. Dr Darryl Ong Khang Wei, our Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, together with QIU staff and student volunteers, got the crowd’s blood pumping with group aerobics that brought big smiles to everyone’s face.

Following a refreshment break, Ms Siti Mariam bt Muhammad, a physiotherapist, gave an insightful talk on the health benefits of exercise. Later, she and her colleagues demonstrated simple chair exercises that are easy to incorporate into daily life without disrupting our busy schedules.
The initiative synergises with our flagship Public Health Campaign – organised annually by the Faculty of Pharmacy – and strengthens QIU’s reputation as a resolute advocate and executor of initiatives that advance progress towards achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The target SDG for this event was #3 – Good Health and Well-Being.
The fourth workshop in this series will be held on 11 October, with the theme ‘Addressing the Role of Mental Health in Managing NCDs’.
Kudos to our faculty, staff, and students for serving at the frontlines of the global campaign to create a healthier and more equitable world. We couldn’t be prouder!
