IME Group of Companies Engineers Inspiration at Technology Day

One of the hallmarks of engineering and computing is the constant movement to push the limits of technology.

This pursuit of innovation is inculcated in our students, and we do so via events like Technology Day, with the input and insight of industry partners like the IME Group of Companies.

IME is a provider of engineering, industry 4.0, and IT solutions, offering computer software solutions for engineering design and manufacturing, as well as training and consultancy services. Their clients include manufacturing industries, engineering sectors, and higher education institutes in Malaysia.

IME and QIU signed an MoU in October that focuses primarily on electric vehicle (EV) technology, EV charging infrastructure, automation and robotics, semiconductor chip design and fabrication. Our collaboration also aimed to apply IME’s expertise to facilitate academic programmes and professional training development.

Their two-day visit to QIU for Technology Day illustrated both parties’ commitment to walk the talk when it comes to industry-academia collaboration.

During their time at QIU, IME and our Faculty of Computing and Engineering lined up expert talks, interactive showcases, and networking opportunities aimed to inspire and inform.

The talks were deep dives into the fundamentals of groundbreaking technological advancements that are making headlines today—including electric vehicles, 3D printing, and collaborative robots. The latter, also known as ‘cobots’, have emerged as game changers, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) manufacturers.

Present for the session were QIU Vice-Chancellor Professor Zita Mohammad Fahmi, QIU RegistrarMr Muhammad MG Omar, Mr Vincent Lee, IME Vice President of Portfolio Management, Mr Sew Chang Wei, IME Business Development Manager and Ms Madi Hashim, IME 3D Printing Specialist.

“We’ve always believed in moving away from the traditional reliance on theoretical lessons. Instead, we want to give our students as much exposure to industry expertise as possible. Our guests are the ones pushing the boundaries of innovation every day, and their insight is vital to ensure our students have the knowledge they need to hit the ground running when they graduate,” said Prof Zita.
