FoP Academic Wins Top Prize at International Conference on Food and Nutrition

Our Faculty of Pharmacy has once again earned acclaim on the international stage! On this occasion, QIU’s source of pride is Associate Professor Dr Mahibub Mahamadsa Kanakal, also the director of our Centre for Pharmaceutical Product Development.

Dr Mahibub recently won the Best Research Presentation award at the International Conference on Functional Food and Nutraceutical Delivery, organised by Jadavpur University, India. The quality of his research and presentation eclipsed fellow academics from around the world, including representatives from the University of Houston and Texas Southern University (USA), the University of Oslo (Norway), and Universiti Teknologi MARA (Malaysia), among others.

The International Conference on Functional Food and Nutraceutical Delivery is a premier global platform that brings together leading researchers, industry experts, healthcare professionals, and thought leaders to share insights and collaborate on solutions that address the growing global demand for health-enhancing foods and supplements.

We are proud to note that Dr Mahibub’s award-winning presentation, titled Study on Suitable Dosage Forms of Herbal Supplements for Aesthetic Effect for Fatigue Management Due to Chemotherapy, aligns perfectly with QIU’s commitment to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal #3 – Good Health and Well-Being.

His work explores the role of herbal supplements in managing chemotherapy-induced fatigue, focusing on both their therapeutic and aesthetic benefits. Its goal was to identify the most suitable dosage forms (capsules, tablets, tinctures, powders, topicals) of herbal supplements to alleviate fatigue, while enhancing aesthetic effects such as improved skin health, hair regrowth, and overall vitality.

By promoting holistic treatments, his research has the potential to improve the quality of life for cancer patients, offering a safer, more personalised treatment option. It also encourages a shift toward patient-centred care, ensuring that treatments align with patients’ preferences and needs.

Many congratulations to Dr Mahibub for confirming his world-class credentials at this influential assembly of industry experts! Furthermore, as a university that prides itself on giving back to the community, we are also thrilled that his work will ultimately benefit people through improved cancer care and reduced reliance on exhausting pharmaceutical-led treatments.
