The state champion QIU Eagles continued their perfect start to the 2019 TNB-MSN SUPER-QUEST-MBI Perak Hockey League by recording two stellar group stage wins over the weekend.
On Saturday, the mighty Eagles beat UPSI Muallim 4-2 before eking out a narrow 1-0 win against the Muallim Hockey Association a day later.
The wins maintained their 100 per cent record and sent them into the semi-finals after they topped Group A.
In the first match, the boys recovered from going behind early to roar back with three unanswered goals.
Two well-drilled penalty corners from Arif Sarbon and a powerful reverse hit from Jaswinder Singh gave the Eagles a commanding lead, before UPSI Muallim narrowed the deficit through Che Abdul Halim Che Mohd Asri. QIU’s Mohd Faizul Bakri then put the result beyond doubt by converting a 39th-minute penalty stroke.

Sunday’s game saw a tighter affair with only one goal separating the teams. Again, it was Mohd Faizul who had the final say with a 29th-minute field goal.
The Eagles have now won all three group matches, after opening their account in style with a 4-2 win over Kerian Hockey Team B on Oct 20.
This year’s tournament sees 9 teams battling it out for the coveted title. Our boys have won Group A, while Group B consists of 2018 runners-up MBI, Highlander Boys, Hilir Perak, Politeknik Ungku Omar and Kerian Hockey Team A.
To the QIU family, we invite you to come out and support the team as we march forward! Keep doing us proud Eagles!
