Quest International University Perak (QIUP) today inked a partnership MOU with TS Agriculture Products Sdn Bhd, one of the largest agriculture producer in Cameron Highlands, at a ceremony held at QIUP campus in Ipoh.
Signing on behalf of QIUP was Mr. Nicholas Goh, Chief Operating Officer while Managing Director, Mr Khor Tiam Seng signed on behalf of TS Agriculture Products Sdn Bhd.
Mr. Nicholas Goh stressed that this MOU will provide an avenue for QIUP’s Biotechnology students to put into practice what they learn in the classroom and also enlighten students to the vast opportunities available in the agricultural industry.
“I have always believed that our students must be job-ready when they graduate. This MOU provides the opportunity for students to understand the challenges faced by farmers in Cameron Highlands and work towards providing a solution using Biotechnology.
“When students ask me what is the job opportunity for Biotech graduates, I now can advise them to take a look at the multi-million ringgit agriculture industry in Cameron Highlands and the vast opportunities it provides the students” said Mr Nicholas Goh.
The MOU today will start with helping TS Agriculture cultivate Asparagus from tissue culture method in QIUP lab which will reduce growth time of the plant which is currently 1.5 years to a much shorter period. Besides this, QIUP will also advice on the possibility of vertical farming to deal with the shortage of available agriculture land. The University also plans to open a testing lab facility in Cameron Highlands itself to help with conducting research on other vegetables to help fasten their growth time while minimising the need of using pesticide.
