HRPB Ipoh’s Ear, Nose and Throat International Teaching Week Returns to QIU

As a centre of learning, we are dedicated to supporting continued education initiatives in every way we can—especially when the end result is beneficial to society.

And for the second year in a row, QIU had the honour of working with Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB) to hold the far-reaching Ipoh Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) International Teaching Week medical conference at our Faculty of Medicine.

The week-long series of workshops and talks focused on endoscopic sinus surgery, endoscopic ear surgery and temporal bone dissection. In addition to focusing on ear, nose and throat (ENT) issues, this year’s conference added workshops and talks on sleep issues—which can lead to poor cardiovascular health, among other major problems.

This year’s conference saw more than 120 healthcare professionals from Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and India gathered on campus. Expert speakers from China, India, Singapore, and the US were present to share their insights on the latest developments in their respective fields.

The information disseminated throughout the conference will undoubtedly catalyse more innovation and progress in ENT and sleep issues treatment.

Otorhinolaryngology Association of Ipoh secretary Dr Zabrina Marnel Samarakoddy said the Faculty of Medicine’s industry-based facilities and equipment provided the ideal platform for precise demonstrations of the medical techniques and skills used by the specialists of today.

“The facilities here are top class, and the staff have been extremely accommodating throughout the event. We are extremely happy to have more speakers and more participants compared to last year’s conference, and QIU’s support has been vital,” she said.

“The university’s academics have been continuously involved, which will only benefit the students and the knowledge they receive. This shows the calibre of educators available here throughout the academic hierarchy.”

We are grateful to HRPB for the chance to work together on another conference, and we hope to see them back here for the next one!
