Schools battle for top honours at QIU STEM Quiz challenge 2019

It was a thrilling day for the schools battling for the top spot at the second QIU STEM Quiz Challenge.  Competing among the best schools in Perak, the quiz saw many competitive teams vying for the grand prize of a full scholarship for the programme of choice from the Faculty of Science and Technology at Quest International University Perak (QIU).

QIU STEM Quiz Challenge is an academic competition for high school students aimed at increasing awareness about Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) based education. It requires the participants to have strong general knowledge in the disciplines of STEM.  The quiz was carried out using the Multiple Choice Questions answering format, which has been proven as an effective technique in assessing fundamental knowledge of the candidate.

The overall champion, Mr Low Zi Xian from SMJK Sam Tet, Ipoh was elated when his name was announced to receive the scholarship award worth RM45,000. He also swept the champion titles in the Physics, Chemistry and Computing category while emerging 2nd runner-up in the Mathematics category.

The overall 1st runner up, Mr Ma Jin Hao from SMJK Sam Tet, Ipoh and the 2rnd runner up, Mr. Tan Jun Jie from SMJK San Min, Teluk Intan walked away with a scholarship worth RM22,500 and RM9000 respectively.

Teams were also awarded on the individual subjects category for Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. A total of RM120,000 worth of scholarships was given out as prizes.

Besides the quiz, the day long programme also saw participants attend awareness talks and workshops by the academics from the university aimed at exposing participants to edge cutting technology and applications in the areas of STEM.

This event was organised with the help of  Alumni Association of National Chiao Tung University, Malaysia and Sekolah Menengah San Min (Suwa), Teluk Intan, Perak.

Congratulations again to all the winners and we would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the teachers and students who participated at this event.
