WWF-Malaysia Bestows QIU with EcoCampus Bronze Award

QIU’s resolute commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainability Development Goals (SDG) has been recognised by yet another eminent international organisation.

This time, WWF-Malaysia has awarded QIU with the FEE EcoCampus Bronze Award, thanks to the efforts of our Eco-Rangers Club

The award comes after we leapt into the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2021 in April—one of only 19 Malaysian universities that made it to the global rankings of 1,115 universities worldwide.

The FEE EcoCampus is an award programme that provides a framework to guide higher education institutions on their sustainable journey. It helps them model sustainability as an integral part of campus life while involving staff, academics and students.

The programme aims to empower them to become forward thinkers and lead the way towards sustainable development.

At the moment, the programme has reached 125 campuses across 21 countries—and we’re proud to be one of a small select group of Malaysian institutions that have joined in.

The Eco-Rangers have been a busy bunch, and here are just some of their recent activities.

  • Straw Free, Zero Plastic Straws Campaign (2019)
  • Metal Straws Sale (2019)

Advisor Dr Fong Si Yuen thanked the university for its support and congratulated her students for a job well done.

“The University is committed to upholding the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Everyone at QIU has been very supportive of our efforts and this achievement is something for all of us to share,” said Dr Fong.

“I am very proud of the Eco-Rangers! Their dedication and passion, are shown in their actions and this is a great reward. I appreciate their contribution in making our campus a better place, making our peers understand the fragility of our environment and the importance of its protection,” she added.

“We hope that we can recruit more spirited youths to join us in our mission to advocate environment sustainable initiatives for a greener QIU campus.”

Congratulations to everyone involved in this fantastic achievement, and keep inspiring us to make a greener future!
