Earlier this week, QIU provided its students and alumni with the much-coveted opportunity to meet representatives of Malaysia’s leading local companies and multinationals at the university’s annual Industry Day.
Organised by QIU’s Career and Professional Development Centre, the day-long event brought together hundreds of students and industry representatives from a rich diversity of disciplines. Many of the participants attended on-the-spot interviews at booths set up by the businesses and soaked in expert advice on launching their careers.
Another highlight of the day was a forum on entrepreneurship moderated by Dr Jeffrey Lee Khong Loong, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management. The trio of accomplished panellists who shared their entrepreneurial acumen were Managing Director of Team Some, Ms Ceylyn Tay; Founder of KK Smart, Mr Koh KK; and Co-Founder of PichaEats, Ms Suzanne Ling.
To further cement its long-standing ties to the corporate sector, QIU that morning also inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with noted financial advisory firm Chen & Co. The MOU will benefit QIU students by including them in an Incubator Programme that supports work-based learning, internships and work placements in the areas of accounting, taxation and auditing, etc.

The signatories to this agreement were Chief Operating Officer of QIU, Mr Nicholas Goh, and Managing Director of Chen & Co., Mr Chen Kian Yew. Also present at the ceremony as witnesses were QIU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Zita Mohd Fahmi, and Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management, Prof. Dr Abdul Raheem Mohamad Yusof. Their counterparts from Chen & Co. were Managing Partner, Mr Goh Juh Yeh, and Training and Development Advisor, Mr Davinderpall Singh.
Summing up the Industry Day experience, QIU alumnus and current Ernst & Young employee, Adlan Syazwan Abdul Razak, said the event was invaluable for students to gauge employer expectations. “If they can address their shortcomings and optimise their strengths, they will have a much easier time job hunting,” he added.
