QIUP supports 20th Malaysian Education Summit

Quest International University Perak (QIUP) was a strategic partner of the just concluded two-day 20th Malaysian Education Summit organized by Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute (ASLI) held in Petaling Jaya on 14 and 15 April 2016.

About 300 participants attended the annual national conference which brought together a range of academicians, practitioners, shapers, investors and policy makers to discuss directions and discovery in education.

The event was officiated by the Minister of Higher Education Malaysia, Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh who disclosed that Malaysia is now ranked number nine in the world for the most preferred destination for tertiary education by foreign students.

He noted that there are 151,000 foreign students who choose Malaysia because of the quality of education offered here, affordable cost of living, cultural comfort and good usage of English, factors which are synonymous too with QIUP in Ipoh.

QI Group Director for Education and QIUP Council Member, Mr. Zaheer Merchant was one of the Speakers for a session titled – Technology in Education: Beyond the four-walls, Teacher’s Technological Literacy Misplaced?

He mentioned that the 21st Century classroom has become sophisticated due to the whole concept of pure, brick and mortar learning is now replaced with online, real time live sessions, skype, chat rooms and virtual classrooms for full on collaboration with study and work.

“We use emails, blogs, wikis, discussion boards, web supported textbooks, hypertext documents, audio/video courses, social networking, webcasts, podcasts, screen shots and that is just the software! Students of today are a lot more wired, hence teachers are more accountable for in the utilization of new technology which is of very urgent.”

Malaysia has 20 public universities and 511 institutions of higher learning institutions. QIUP is a private University managed by the QI Group and has an enrolment of more than a thousand students including foreign students with studies offered at Foundation, Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree and Post Graduate levels.
