QIU STEM Quiz Deepens Student Interest in Science and Technology

Anyone who keeps up with the news knows countries around the world are racing to raise student interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education from an early age.

Since these fields of study are closely linked to transformative breakthroughs in technology – including the lighting pace of advancements in artificial intelligence – STEM-related careers are increasingly in high demand and offer a wide range of job opportunities the world over.

Connecting with this crucial node in modern learning, the Faculty of Integrated Life Sciences (FILS) at Quest International University (QIU) recently hosted the QIU STEM Quiz 2023 in association with Perak Transit, Perkin Elmer, Gerhardt Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Fefifo Malaysia, and Medigene Sdn Bhd.

The competition was aimed at upper secondary school (Forms 4 and 5) students in Perak. It drew nearly 70 teams comprising aspiring scientists and technologists, who faced off in a preliminary round held online between 15 and 19 August 2023. Schools that finished in the top 8 were invited to compete in the grand finale held on 9 September at the university’s Ipoh campus.

SMK St Michael’s school took home the champion’s trophy after triumphing over their rivals. The 1st runner-up position went to SMK Tanjong Rambutan school, while SMK Tanjong Rambutan, SMK Methodist (ACS), and SMK Taman Jati schools placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd runners-up, respectively. The top four also received cash prizes, and all participants were awarded e-certificates.

The QIU STEM Quiz 2023 grand finale was officiated by Pn. Ra’baniah Nor bt. Hamdan – Pegawai School Improvement Specialist Coaches (SISC+) Science and Mathematics, Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah Kinta Utara.

Congratulations to all the winners! Everyone else, better luck next time. Keep competing, keep growing, keep striving for excellence.
