QIU School of Communication Hosts Illuminating Online Talk on the Future of Media

qiu school of communication online symposium

The QIU School of Communication continued its proud tradition of exposing students to experiential learning and expert insights by hosting an illuminating online talk on the future of media in the post-pandemic world.

Attended by almost 300 QIU students, staff and members of the public, the online symposium titled Transitioning Media: Bittersweet Endemic featured noted former journalist and publisher Rubin Khoo, and Astro Radio and Rocketfuel Entertainment CEO Kenny Ong Chun Eng.

In this interactive session, the panel experts opined the evolution of media content was critical to keep pace with fluid consumer tastes and the striking growth of mass communication channels. Likewise, future media practitioners too must embrace these changes to communicate effectively.

Mr Khoo said for creative content to thrive in the media industry of tomorrow, it must embrace a diversity of skills and new models of communication.

Mr Eng shared audiences are changing the way they consume content, as are their behavioural patterns. “Content used in the last three years is not reliable anymore,” he said, citing as an example the increased use of sketches, dances and music videos in television advertisements.

Well done, QIU School of Communication, for organising yet another standout learning experience for our students! We are certain the symposium will inspire them to explore their talents in the areas of broadcasting, publishing, and digital media.
